ABOUT SIMKIN LAB

Humans can regenerate small injuries such as muscle tears or bone fractures, but large injuries like limb amputations lead to permanent disability. Not all animals have this problem. Salamanders, zebrafish, even some mammals (i.e. African Spiny Mouse) are able to regenerate injuries small and large. Because of the potential ramifications for recovery after major injuries or disease, my research focuses on why some injuries regenerate and others lead to permanent disability.
